Yesterday morning, most of us Houstonians woke up to surprisingly cold weather and snow flurries! By 10 am, it was full fledged sticking-to-the-ground-kind of snowing and it was wonderful. A born and raised Houstonian, it’s not often I get to see snow. When I moved to Lubbock for college, we got snow there a couple times a year and I always loved it. However, here in Houston, it might snow once a year and usually not enough to stick to the ground. So, when it snows like it did yesterday, everyone here gets a little freaked out, drives horribly, and dresses as though it is a winter day in Minnesota just to go to the mail box. I, on the other hand, chose to grab my camera and take pictures of my hounds.
I’ve shown plenty of pictures of my dogs on this blog, so by now you now I have a gigantic Bernese Mountain Dog named Maddux. Since these dogs are much more common in the north where the weather isn’t so hot, as soon as the snow started to fall I knew Maddux would just love it. So, I grabbed my camera and took the dogs in the backyard. After I snapped a few pictures, I couldn’t get my sweet Maddux to come inside. He just laid down, let the snow fall over him and panted…which, with hisย warm breath, made him look a bitย like a steam engine.
I realize it’s probably customary and well, appropriate, to only post one or two pictures of my dogs on this here blog. However, I have some family in Ohio (Hi Joan, Hi Sue) that logs on here regularly just to see posts about my dogs. So, here is my Maddux, all 130 lbs and 2 coats of fur, enjoying every minute of the cold and snow. And that’s sweet Sammy with him. Sam’s didn’t really understand the snow so he just kept trying to eat it. ๐
You’ll notice Jackson is missing from this post and that’s because he wanted absolutely nothing to do with being outside in the cold. Because he’s so low to the ground, the snow clumps and gets stuck in his fur. When we were living in Lubbock, after I’d take him out, I’d run his feet and stomach in warm water to get the snow out and I think he remembers that. So, he sat in the doorway while the rest of us played ๐

Hey Linds, when you’re shipping Madd to Ohio, put Sams in the carrier too, K? Thanks for sharing the photos of the pups, but you can keep the snow. (Hey, the pics of Logan aren’t so bad either! ) LOL KEEP ‘EM COMMIN…. Ohio Sue
